This thread made me wonder if I should hide my age, lol.
I don't really care, so why not show it?
My theory is that people judge you no matter what you do or not do... worrying about age seems counterproductive.

For me it is more a matter of hiding my birth date than my age. I don't like "surprises" or drama associated with my birthday. Also, birth dates are almost as good an identifier as social security numbers.
Are some of you embarrassed of your age? Do you want to be thought of as a different age than you are? What's you reason, if any, for not showing it?
I share my age because I think context is useful when we're engaged in discussion. I do so knowing the risk of prejudice, but that happens at every stage of the gradual self reveal...
I think people don't share their age for a lot of reasons. Embarrassment, a desire to snag someone outside their age bracket, social experimentation, to flout social norms with impunity, as a personal buffer to private advances, role-playing unimpeded, fear of disclosure, etc.
