Is it bad that I needed the title of this thread as a reminder? :P Barely remembered to get him a card, and it's almost a miracle I got him a gift. Not that I don't love my dad, I just don't put much stock in these types of holidays.

my dad's an INTJ. which means he's probably taking it personally that i haven't called, but he won't say anything unless i ask for five bucks... even if it's ten years from now, and at the same time, he isn't surprised by my actions in the least and will feel good about it if i don't call because he was right.

    Cute and thoughtful thread, Ivy.

You might want to include a for the category of people who cannot call their fathers for reasons other than him being deceased, or for people's whose concept of fatherhood only brings pain.

I need to call mine, just to suggest that I am open to dialog and haven't cut him out of my life, but we really do not have a real relationship. He never calls me, and I never call him (or my mother); we just really have little to say to each other or that we really want to or feel the need to share.

I don't know. Maybe those expectations are unrealistic, and it's fine for things to be the way they are now: If we need each other, we will be there and do what we can, but meanwhile we all have separate lives and it's okay.

Why don't they have a Son's Day and Daughter's Day?

I posed that question when I was a little girl and the response was, "Everyday is Daughter's Day. . . now get back to massaging my feet, wench!"

Depending on how young and pretty, a foot massage is not always a bad thing...

Well, wait till December -- that's when I start to become bitchy and cynical.

That's a wonderful idea. Consider it done. I'm going to borrow your phrasing if you don't mind.

Go get back massaging Heiny's feet!

    Note.
Uberfuhrer massages no other feet but Heiny's. Do not entertain vain hopes.

My parents always did that to me, too, except it wasn't daughter, as there weren't any girls until it was for children in general.

I didn't call my worthless male genetic donor, but I did send him an email with a picture of my sister and I on my back deck that I took this morning just before I left for Canada.

I won't call him from here, it's not worth the roaming charges.

Disclaimer: The above is my opinion and mine alone, it does not mean I cannot change my mind, nor does it guarantee that my comments are related to any deep-seated convictions. Take everything I say with a whole snowplow worth of salt and call me in the morning, if you can.
