Sounds like an opportunity for a food fight.

-How beautiful, this pale Endymion hour.
    -What are you talking about?
-Endymion, my dear. A beautiful youth possessed by the moon.
-Well, forget about him and get to bed.
    -Yes, my dear.

The stakes were setting a precedent to be the go-fer girl, and feeling obligated to fetch for the higher ups, when you were hired to be a professional, and to do office work for your boss. It's not a situation of equals, one asking the other for a favor. It's the one with the power asking the inferior to run errands for him, just because he can.

Male see cake. Male want cake. We are but simple creatures!
Sure. But she wouldn't have felt comfortable asking her director to go get HER some cake, no matter how much she wanted it. He's in the power position. Unless she has an extremely cool boss, which is usually not the case.

I'm aware of such things, but I'm lucky in that I rarely need to concern myself with them. This can cause me to overlook such issues. Oh, the curse of being a white male in the IT world!

I don't think this was an overt power play here, as demonstrated by the fact that he got his own cake quickly after asking. However, let's play this out. Say she gets the cake, and it *is* a test. She sets the precedent, and this guy is a jerk that likes her doing his bidding more than his usual lackeys. What options does she have available to her now? Can she get out of this?
