Re: Rome: Don't you mean HBO/BBC? Great show, naturally got cancelled. They crammed about a season's worth of plot into the last two episodes.

    And yes, I agree.

Hold on, it got cancelled? Ran for 2 series here... was there supposed to be more?

The predator is kinda cool, I can't say I'm really rooting for Arnie in that one... but Arnie's good guys tend to always be rather 2D... however, as the Terminator, you were with him.

Well a lot of the traditional Hero characters are two dimensional. They are often made in to such a symbol of 'goodness' that very few can relate to. As we all have a certain amount of 'badness' within us. The villain has been given more depth, making them more interesting. The villain wants chaos, destruction, again something everyone can relate to. But the hero's goals are uninteresting and boring, to sit in harmony.

The exception to this is something like star wars where the hero's are the rebels. Also popular hero's tend to be conflicted, like Wolverine or Batman.

It is only in recent times that writers are starting to make the hero a a dimensional character. Something that was done with villains a long time ago.

I like ambiguity rather than black and white. Or realism when the director shows there is good and bad in us all.

I was never into one or the other.

-How beautiful, this pale Endymion hour.
    -What are you talking about?
-Endymion, my dear. A beautiful youth possessed by the moon.
-Well, forget about him and get to bed.
    -Yes, my dear.

Reese pwns the Terminator, in actuality . "I came across time for you, Sarah. I love you. I always have." And look at the guy's shoes.

Yeah, Rome got cancelled. Low ratings, high production cost.

Crazy stuff, it was mad popular here.
Do you mean it got cancelled before the second series was shown, or that a third was intended but not made because of low ratings on your side of the pond? Cos if that's the case then I'm now officially furious, as Europe totally wants a third series!!!

Check around for the full story. I don't remember all the details, but there were supposed to be more than two seasons.

on Rome: I know that there were 2 seasons because I watched them and yeah, Titus was by far the best character because he was so colorful

My best friend and I once discussed that most heros are total pussies and they never slip up and there's nothing you want more than to see them trip over thier shoelaces and fall face first into a pile of dog shit

Villans on the other hand are fun- and they have much more flair and better vocabularies. When a villan rants they use such fun curses and words

Usually, I don't root for the villain. They are almost always more entertaining than the do-gooder hero, but their self-importance and arrogance always turns me off. I prefer anti-heroes.

The best advance your-about-to-get-blowed-up technology ever seen!

There was one recent villain that had me nearly rooting for him though:
