I don't get that either. It's not like hurricanes creep up on anyone. You know days in advance, unless you live in a cave. It's not like tornadoes, which do scare me a little. Growing up in the midwest, I've had a couple close calls.
Midwestern tornadoes don't mess around! Were you ever near one of those HUGE tornadoes? Just the sight of them on tape freaks me out.

Fortunately, no huge ones, only small ones. Then again...maybe I'd get really excited knowing I was about to be crushed by a monstrous tornado.

Back when I still lived in St. Louis, an apartment complex less than a quarter mile from where I lived was hit in the middle of the night. I saw it on my way to work the next morning. It wasn't too bad, but you could see inside a few apartments. It was definitely a moment.

The other one was in Fort Worth. I think this was back in the spring of 2000, I saw a tornado touch down...I'd guess about 1000ft from where I was. That was pretty neat. The only thing that worried me was getting stuck in traffic and the tornado eating me.

I've had so many close-calls with tornadoes and hurricanes, I'm like a cat stuck to the ceiling now.

I've seen a few funnels, and one time way back in elementary the sky was so dark it had an olive greenish hue to it and we were all moved inside to the main building. My dad though has pictures of times he's gone over a bridge and 2 or 3 waterspouts will be out on the river. They were pretty wicked looking.

I saw one waterspout off the coast! That *was* cool!

*shudder* Green skies. You just KNOW that's going to be bad.

Back then I was so fasinated I wanted to stand out there and look on, since the wind was so hard.. its a very vivid memory in my head, since it's the only time Ive seen the skies like that and I've loved storms since I was little (maybe I should have posted "Storm chasing" as a potential ENFP job in that other thread...) but thinking back on it that could have been terrible for our home and everything.
