Last night my mother got robbed at gun point.
She can hardly stop crying she's so shook up.
I want to move my whole family to some remote island where there's no danger.
I hope your mother is OK now.

I'm from Baltimore. Moved to LA for about 8 years. Moved back to Baltimore for 6 years. Moved back to SoCal (Long Beach). Baltimore is much worse. And DC. No question.
Not trying to in any way lessen your experience. Just saying it's not just California.
I would tend to agree. Philadelphia can be pretty rough, but Camden, Baltimore, D.C., and Richmond are worse, for their sizes. I've driven through some rather bleak areas in SoCal when I've been out there, but I haven't really seen or heard anything worse than barfights, property theft, and rampant drug use in L.A. I used to hear gunfire occasionally in South Philly, though.

I am so glad your mom made it out safe, and she will be that much stronger and resiliant after it. I remember in Seattle when I was about 6 years old walking home from the bus stop with my mom. Someone robbed her with a knife and took her purse and ran off. She was in tears for a week or so but now she is much tougher from it.
