Yeah, there's been a rash of restaurant hold-ups in the East Bay.

I feel for you, my parents got held up by two guys with shotguns in St. Maartens last year. But I wouldn't tie it to California. I feel relatively safe here.

She can hardly stop crying she's so shook up.

I want to move my whole family to some remote island where there's no danger.
I hope your mother is OK now.

I would tend to agree. Philadelphia can be pretty rough, but Camden, Baltimore, D.C., and Richmond are worse, for their sizes. I've driven through some rather bleak areas in SoCal when I've been out there, but I haven't really seen or heard anything worse than barfights, property theft, and rampant drug use in L.A. I used to hear gunfire occasionally in South Philly, though.

If you have no love for California, you do not know the California I know.

Corona Del Mar is easy to love, I would think. I bet you are hanging out on the beach with Teemu Selanne (and the other Ducks) all the time!

you've got the sickest beaches ever (cdm is the worst beach in s.cal, i will inform you).

    California's just "too legit."

In hopes of making you feel better.

I am so glad your mom made it out safe, and she will be that much stronger and resiliant after it. I remember in Seattle when I was about 6 years old walking home from the bus stop with my mom. Someone robbed her with a knife and took her purse and ran off. She was in tears for a week or so but now she is much tougher from it.
