6am kicks ass. It's dark, quiet, no one's out..

It's a nice time to walk.

Ugh. I'm not even remotely human at such an hour.

Had to get up at 5 AM sometimes to get to the garage on time. Driving down the dark highway in the rain, just me and my Silverado and the country station. Both calming and exhausting simultaneously.

I can't stay up at 6am anymore. I'd just fall right back to sleep and wake up at 9am.

Yeah I've heard of these mythical alternate fives, sixes and sevens of the clock, the ones that aren't in the afternoon, but I don't think I've really made their acquaintance yet. They probably follow shortly after the other threes and fours, the ones where, as opposed to having coffee and hanging out in cheap cafes and talking shit, I'm sitting at home meditating or watching Star Trek DVD's or otherwise having time to myself. But shortly after those I go to sleep and don't generally read the clock again until it's saying something more along the lines of double figures.

I used to be a veteran of the morning version of eight o'clock, for kid-and-school related reasons, but since the advent of homeschooling has enabled me to pay no attention at all to the ridiculous idea that everyone's body is made to work at the same hours, anything before 9am has become a thing strictly for exceptional circumstances. And like I say, before 8 is purely mythical to me. Something that happens to other people.

Or to wake up at 5am...

I find waking up isn't so hard anymore, it's falling asleep that's hardest.
