Actually, that's something I've been looking at. There are, in fact, a few mobile themes for vBulletin (some even do nifty things like size the avatars way down), and I've thought of suggesting it to the admins here. I've read the occasional post on my phone's browser, but it's a bit painful. A mobile theme would be awesome.

yeah I frequently check the site from my phone and it's a bit awkward-looking. If you find anything good let us know (fc and I are the implementers)

Well, time to pack it up. I considered posting while driving, but I'm not quite that stupid. Almost, but not quite.

Ah, didn't realize that. Hey, if you guys wanted to add a mobile theme, that'd be great! Just search for "mobile" on the vBulletin forums, and you'll see some.

Just a warning to anyone trying this PDANet thing; make sure you have an unlimited data plan for your phone! I don't want anyone coming back here and raking me over when they get a $2,000 phone bill.

hahaha nah. I mostly just wanted to find a way to be cheap and lazy and find a way to check my email while I'm staying in a hotel. Otherwise, I don't take my laptop too many places.

I have an unlimited data plan that I never make use of.

it's called tethering, and it's badass (as long as your provider doesnt catch you)

other people interested in doing something like this might also want to look into WiMax

wireless provider (Cingular, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc) your home ISP service is unrelated

some providers have plans specifically for laptops (tethering or a card) that cost a bit extra, although there is really no way for them to know.

WiMax is a new technology specifically made for wide range data transfer, as compared to the wireless data technologies used on cell phones which are just an overlay of the existing cellular network (initially started as an adaptation of the cell technology). think of it like wireless DSL or cable that a small home network can run on, as compared to the lower bandwidth requirements that cell phones have for simple things like small web pages and picture messaging.
