Out of curiosity, I did a forum search for "martoon". This returned all posts in which I'm quoted or mentioned (using "Show Posts", not "Show Threads"). I was surprised to see it's a total of 670 times, considering I've posted 635 times.
It then occurred to me that it might be fun to write a script to do this search and grab the post count for all members, and see what everyone's reference/post ratio is.
But there's a major flaw in this plan. Many members have nicknames that are commonly used, or shortened versions of their name (e.g. uber, FMW, etc.). To further complicate things, some of these nicknames are not unique to one member. It's already been established that "CC" could refer to approximately 23% of the forum membership for some reason.
To account for this, the script would need a list of members having nicknames, and what these nicknames are. And if a member has had a name change, their old name would be included as a nick. Also, we should have a list of member names and nicknames that are "real" words that might get used in a post which doesn't actually refer to anyone (e.g., "wolf", "anonymous", etc.).
Using that, we could determine the minimum and maximum number of potential references each member has.
Of course, if people help provide all this info, I suppose they'll expect me to actually write the stupid script. That's unfortunate.
