I'm a supertaster. I'm not super picky but I'm not super adventurous either. There are certain things I just won't do e.g. raw/smoked fish.

I used to be very picky as a kid... not nearly as much now, although I still have preferences. But as I got older, I decided to be more adventurous and try things that weren't my first choice. Some of them, I've never tried again -- they were either meh, or they were okay but not as good as my favorites. And I'd rather have something else. But I feel good about trying to stretch.

I've had raw fish before... was surprised at how decent it was. Although not a lot of it. But I really like sushi now (GOOD fresh sushi, at least). Who would have thought? For years I resisted, then once I had it, it was pretty decent. I always get some sushi now if the buffet has fresh sushi being made.

To trace the remote in the immediate; the eternal in the ephemeral; the past in the present; the infinite in the finite; these are to me the springs of delight and beauty.” ~ H.P. Lovecraft

I thought he was just being ridiculous, but I did some research, and it's a very real disorder known as food neophobia. People with this disorder actually have a psychological block when it comes to trying new foods. It genuinely fills them with terror.

I don't pretend to understand it. I absolutely love trying new foods. The more complex the flavors, the better. But I've learned that it's not a matter of telling a picky eater to just "grow up". A lot of the time, these people need therapy. It's not healthy at all.

I've tried it, but I've never had it prepared in a way I find appetizing at all. To me, the organs are the garbage parts of the animal. That's why they're called offal. Offal = refuse.

I have a low tolerance for offal generally. Heart is good if done well. Liver has too much flavour but is nice in pâté. Kidneys are popular but I can't get over the pissy smell.

I am getting more curmudgeonly as I age. Where I would have tried to debate someone before, I just don't care anymore. They aren't going to change my mind and I wont change there's.
