    I won't eat cheap food from China because China is profoundly polluted and their are no or little health regulations. And what health regulations there are are flouted. And as I write we have people all over Australia sick from eating cheap Chinese food. So I buy Australian and stay well.

    I'm flexible when it comes to taste, but sensitive to texture and just don't care enough about food to be adventurous for the sake of it. I can stomach unappealing foods when it's socially necessary, but definitely wouldn't try them without an occasion. Totally could live without knowing what balut tastes like.

    I only eat food that most of society deems appropriate for consumption EXCEPT for anything from the water. My tastes in food are quite ordinary. Once I find a food I like I stick to it. I didn't eat salad dressing until I was in my mid 20s because it was "gross". I've come around on that though.

    Texture is a big thing with me. I'm okay with most tastes, but squishy rubbery foods, like squid, mushrooms, and clams are yuck. Like chewing on rubber bands.

    Here's something from Australia that I might eat.

    It's called a witchetty grub. I saw Les Stroud eating them roasted on Survivorman, and he seemed to enjoy the hell out of them. (Then again, he's always starving on that show, so every time he finds something edible, it's practically a religious experience.)

    Supposedly they have a texture similar to scrambled eggs, and they have a creamy, nutty flavor. I'd be game to try one. Plus I like saying the name. Witchetty grub.

    Speaking of balut, my sister lives in Philippines and I want to try it if I ever go there.

    @phobik

    Nice to see that I won't need to travel quite so far.

    And really, I don't see the problem. It's not radically different from chicken soup is it? It's boiled bird. People like boiled bird. It's an egg, and people like eggs.
