I've never felt worried about being single because of the amount of troubles my friends who are not seem to encounter in their relationships and just how much of it appears to be hard work.

Their jobs dont involve as much crisis management, emotional hard grind and regulating others emotional states as mine but the rest of their lives sure do.

I know two or three people whose relationships are ending right now too and its in court and one even involved a lot of threatening behaviour and crisis. So I do not really envy any of them.

I like it how I like Halloween, as a festival and a tradition, it has a religious dimension, as it is a saint's day, the patron saint of love, marriage and plague would you believe? But it has many, many secular and cultural aspects, I know it is something of a Hallmark Holiday too, however, I am not cynical about that.

I like to learn how others celebrate it as in the US I have heard that days like it and St Patricks day are occasions for everyone to get and give cards and gifts to pretty much everyone else (although I know that this may be a family tradition thing).

I think that there should be at least one day in the year that is dedicated to celebrating love and lovers, Feuerbach who wrote the essence of christianity and thought that religion was a sort of mistaken identity anthropology wanted a "religion" of humanism which would celebrate the human senses and sensualism, in particular love, which I think is a good idea too and festivals like Valentines could promote if people choose it.

All that said I did forget about it this year until pretty much today.

    Doing what I normally do.

    Which is stew.
'One of (Lucas) Cranach's masterpieces, discussed by (Joseph) Koerner, is in it's self-referentiality the perfect expression of left-hemisphere emptiness and a precursor of post-modernism. There is no longer anything to point to beyond, nothing Other, so it points pointlessly to itself.' - Iain McGilChrist

Went out to lunch with several friends and also my friend's grandmother -- the grandmother regaled us with stories of Eleanor Roosevelt and Amelia Earhart and ended up buying all our lunches. Right now I'm with another friend doing work at a cafe, and tonight even more (single) friends will be over at my house for a potluck dinner party, with a fire in the fireplace and board games to play.

I'm actually very, very happy today. As a single person, my gratitude for freedom is amplified. It's like I'm walking on sunshine...this day is better than my birthday. As I see all the coupled people my own age walk around under a gray cloud of responsibility I am free to pursue my passions and devote myself to the altruistic cause of self improvement.

Funeral, work, go for a run, party tonight. But I think the party might be far away, so maybe not a party.
