Wow that was beautiful... and I agree with everything he mentioned in the video. That's why - besides catching up with close friends - I hardly use social networks like Facebook anymore.

I agree with the message of the video as well. I know I'm a tool/sucker the same way the majority of this generation is, and I don't do anything to combat it. I'm constantly checking my phone, looking at instagram, scrolling through facebook. Yet, anyone that knows me knows I really have only a couple of actual friends.

Sorry beans, I didn't see this when you sent it.

    Daayum. Potent.

    I think I'm depressed now

Reminds me of this book, I haven't read it, but I read the title:

That video really reminds me of the growing need for me to get the fuck away from glowing rectangles more. I mean, really everything in the video was dead on.

This very forum isn't necessarily bad, but it can be.

    Great find, @Arctic Hysteria

Yep. Things should only be used sparingly - technology is one of them. It's powerful and this is the technology age so it's not like we can just move away from it if we want to, but there needs to be a line drawn.

Does anyone else actively ignore these sorts of "viral videos" that just reek of click-bait, and usually ultimately are videos of unachieveable pipe-dreams that just make people feel good about themselves? Or worse, feel worse about themselves?

And no, I did not watch this, and I don't plan to either. How much you wanna bet it's on Upworthy as well?

I find it ironic that the only way to get attention from people on this issue is to spread it via social media and virtual communities.
Prince Ea is on a good direction to being a conscious rap artist.

I myself am on this forum (and it's the only forum I'm on), I have a wordpress blog that I plan to come back to, a facebook that I just re-activated after 5 months deactivated for the purpose of work. I have no instagram, I get on facebook once a day or every other day, I have no twitter, tumblr, vines, or anything else that has just been invented.

It's just sad, how a glowing rectangular gets more attention than the people who truly care about you that might be sitting right in front of you. And the so-called "friends" don't have to be there in your life and give two shits about you to be considered "friends". And the gossips, the bullshits, the misunderstandings, the lying and cheating coming from those glowing rectangulars are endless and damaging.

I agree with the message, it was a little dramatic for my taste.

Taking a concept to it's logical end is rarely logical or relevant to the subject at hand.

^ agreed. Even if you agree with the message it's way too dramatic.

I DON'T agree with it at all. I have only gotten closer to my friends because of it and have started interactive with long lost past companions.

Also at the beginning he said an average person spends 4 years of his life on 'them'. But if you for social media people would spends either more time trying to contact their friends or no time at all.

    Way too much drama.

What statistics is he going off for the average person?

What about places without access to modern smart-phones or many phones at all? But then maybe I'm the wrong target for this message since I only use facebook to organise offline meet ups with friends. And the area I live in is quite old fashioned. Lots of very English pubs with local characters and conversation is the objective with the drinking, not a side-order.

It's not a bad message in itself though, but I've just never been that drawn to social media.
'One of (Lucas) Cranach's masterpieces, discussed by (Joseph) Koerner, is in it's self-referentiality the perfect expression of left-hemisphere emptiness and a precursor of post-modernism. There is no longer anything to point to beyond, nothing Other, so it points pointlessly to itself.' - Iain McGilChrist

Suppose a tree fell down, Pooh, when we were underneath it?"
"Suppose it didn't," said Pooh, after careful thought.
    Piglet was comforted by this.
