    you clever Mole, you have considerably broadened the scope;

    one had more in mind here, too, enchanted objects, sans the ... puppeteers,

    those enchanted objects driven by artificial intelligence (or better synthetic intelligence)?

    will our new synthetic friends be ascribed types, too?

    one really does ... wonder?

    We become enchanted by chanting.

    Gregorian Chant is an example of chanting, but in general a chant is a repetition of a sound, a melody, a beat. And we become enchanted by chanting when our critical faculties go to sleep and our creative faculties wake up. For instance, when we are enchanted, we appreciate beauty rather than use.

    By comparison, we become disenchanted when we use evidence and reason to understand the world intrumentally.

    So we are enchanted when we see the world for its own sake, intrinically, as an end in itself, and we are disenchanted when we see the world extrinsically, instrumentally, when we see the world as a means rather than an end.

    So we are enchanted when we see ourselves as an end rather than a means, and we are disenchanted when we we see ourselves as means to an end.

    For instance, most of us are enchanted by sexuality in that we have sex, not to have babies, but we have sex for its own sake.

    And Western Enlightenment disenchanted the world with evidence and reason, freedom and equality, giving us power and alienated jobs. While the internet is reinchanting us and giving us roles or avatars instead of jobs, and giving us an etribe like Typology Central to belong to rather than literate individuality.
