What do you think about these things? What is your first reaction when you see one?

I think they can serve a useful purpose when there is a large amount of text behind one. Mostly when I see one, I tend to think there is likely a passive aggressive comment or photo behind it, or some kind of "secret whisper" that someone wants to make less visible. I'm not sure I understand why people use these things so much. Personally, I like it when people are direct and open. What value do you find in these things?

Honest question. I don't get it.

I think they're super useful to collapse things that take up a lot of thread space, like pictures, really long passages of text. And also of course, to hide spoilers. There are some people who tend to use spoilers in annoying ways (to me), I just don't open those.

I definitely think they are useful. It's nice to condense things, and and an artfully place spoiler can just add an extra effect to things.

I think they are infinately useful in threads like the ones about tv shows and the likes. But I am also of opinion it is often used where it doesnt serve a purpose. (like semi hiding a jab at someone. Putting it off as if theyre saying they dont really mean it.

putting things in spoiler tags isn't hiding it, not really you know the person is going to look.

In avatar or picture threads it can be neat and orderly. Or it could be a punchline of a joke after reading a post. I think it's quite good. Never thought it as an issue.

A phobik post without spoiler tags is simply inconceivable.

    ^ This.

Also in the right situation, it can make jokes a LOT funnier. Or serves as a joke in and of itself, when you use it to act sneaky in a way that isn't sneaky at all.
