    "An upsidedown wire heart
    Being sucked into a periscope
    Still the mind is dull
    Like you need another excuse"

… a theory is primarily a form of insight, i.e. a way of looking
at the world, and not a form of knowledge of how the world is….
.. all our different ways of thinking are to be considered as
different ways of looking at the one reality, each with some
domain in which it is clear and adequate….

"Der Wanderer" (The Wanderer), a lied/song by Franz Schubert.

Literally, it is about a man wandering in a strange land who is longing for home, but the underlying themes of loneliness, struggling with identity and purpose, and difficulty relating to the people around him, I can relate to and believe Schubert did as well.

There is a reasonable English translation of the lyrics here: The wanderer (Schmidt von Lübeck, set by Franz Peter Schubert, Franz Peter Schubert, Johann Xaver Sterkel) (The Lied, Art Song, and Choral Texts Archive: Texts and Translations to Lieder, mélodies, canzoni, and other classical vocal music). Though it's obviously convenient, translation is never 100% accurate because the meaning of the words can change when there isn't an equivalent word in the other language. Anyway...

I come down from the mountains,
The valley dims, the sea roars.
I wander silently and am somewhat unhappy,
And my sighs always ask "Where?"

The sun seems so cold to me here,
The flowers faded, the life old,
    And what they say has an empty sound;
    I am a stranger everywhere.

Where are you, my dear land?
Sought and brought to mind, yet never known,
    That land, so hopefully green,
That land, where my roses bloom,

    Where my friends wander
Where my dead ones rise from the dead,
That land where they speak my language,
    Oh land, where are you?

I wander silently and am somewhat unhappy,
And my sighs always ask "Where?"
In a ghostly breath it calls back to me,
"There, where you are not, there is your happiness."

It's cool, I actually like the lyrics, if only I knew what the music were like
