Default THE WORST TED TALK EVER!!

This TED talk has a bunch of likes and views. To me, it's a mark of the fact that TED started strong, but has become increasingly about platitudes.

This woman got a TED talk, and yet she has nothing to say. So she combined bad stand up with some recycled platitudes about creativity, tossed in a little bit about herself, and pretended to be disadvantaged (which is absurd; if she's on that platform she's one of life's biggest winners).

New rule: If you are speaking at TED, you are not allowed to feel sorry for yourself. Period. There's no excuse for that level of self-pity.

Anyway, if she had a serious argument it would be different. But she literally has nothing to say. She just vapidly asserts a bunch of things she's heard over the years, and sounds vaguely positive while she talks about 'regaining wonder', whatever that is supposed to mean.

Do you guys agree with my very negative assessment of this TED talk?

I don't know if I even want to watch the talk. The premise of it doesn't even sound interesting (I have no interesting in children/parenting etc).

That said, there are some talks that do have a certain level of self-pity, and that's fine, sometimes its valid. Though I won't comment on this particular talk as I have not watched it.

lol what the fuck was that?
    what a piece of shit
people are retarded to like that
that is, not really thinking about what's being said, and just soaking up some feel-good vibes
The speaker seemed to be trying to imitate some really good poets and speakers, without having anything compelling to say.

I watched a minute and a half. It's just really boring and annoying.

I never did like TED talks. I always found them pretentious.

I don't think I've watched a whole one, the attention span for it doesn't exist. I'm sure there's good ones.
    In no likes experiment.

I haven't watched it, but this is how I feel about TED talks in general.

They started off great, but eventually the quality got really diluted.

The law of diminishing marginal returns strikes again...

Not up to the standards that TED talks should be held to. I liked the last 5 minutes, and I wouldn't have had a problem with it if I'd seen it performed at a college or something instead of being advertised to the world as "Ideas Worth Spreading".

That one looked kind of annoying. Watched this one yesterday and don't know that I was inspired or learned anything, but it was really funny and I enjoyed it. Bonus: did not seem pretentious to me. Although how you can afford a trip abroad every year for several people and not a physical therapist . . .

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”
