Default Up so late it's early: To sleep or not to sleep?

Indulged in one o' them soup bowl-sized mochas at Panera yesterday. It's now 7:00 am, and I haven't yet gone to bed or slept. And really feeling it. Tomorrow (Wednesday) is my first day back at work after a long leave, so I need to be "on".

    So do I:

    (a) Crawl in bed now and catch some Zs, but risk not being able to get to sleep again until late tonight

    or

    (b) Make myself stay up until this evening, when I'll really be ready to crash, but risk feeling like poop tomorrow from having missed an entire night's sleep the day before.

And then there's the compromise, catching a little sleep today, but only a couple hours.

(For the record, the mocha was worth it. They is fantastic.)

-How beautiful, this pale Endymion hour.
    -What are you talking about?
-Endymion, my dear. A beautiful youth possessed by the moon.
-Well, forget about him and get to bed.
    -Yes, my dear.

I read somewhere, don't recall where, that you are never truly able to "catch up" on lost sleep. Once it is gone, it is gone. I would say you should stay up the rest of the day, but get to bed earlier than normal tonight, so you get around 9 hours of sleep.

Then have another one of those mochas before work tomorrow.

I do this far too often. I've found that, for me, a little sleep is better than none at all, but not by much. I'd get what I could tonight (today), then do my best at work with coffee and such, and then do what I had to do to get a full night's sleep tonight.

I've tried that but it doesn't work, cos when it gets to about 9pm, regardless of how shattered I was before, I suddenly perk up and feel full of energy, can't possibly sleep.

I find just going to sleep anyway and sleeping in 'til midday, then just saying to hell with it and letting the bodyclock go haywire, works for me.

AND the next night, so you can go to sleep at a normal time, if you really want to, like if you're one of these people with jobs and stuff, then you can always drink yourself to sleep. You get a massive hangover the next morning, but at least your body clock is back to rights.

I think one of us is a little confused here. If I had to guess, I'd say it's probably the one that just stayed up all night.

    To clarify:

    Monday: delicious mocha.

Monday evening to Tuesday morning (i.e., right now): no sleep.

Tuesday: to sleep or not to sleep?

Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning: attempt to sleep, quality and quantity depending on Tuesday decision.

Wednesday: first day back at work.

Oooh, hadn't thought of that! Now yesterday's mocha was twice worth it, since it'll make it necessary to have another one tomorrow!

Now I'm trying to figure out a way to rationalize having one today. Hmmm, not having much luck with that. Any ideas?

Ah! Okay, I thought Tuesday was the day of work.

In that case, you're golden! You have a whole day before this becomes an emergency, so do whatever you feel like doing right now.

Have one as soon as possible, so it helps you stay up through the day.

Then maybe pop a Benadryl or Tylenol PM at around 7ish (or a glass of wine if you're into that)
