I had a hard time telling people what I'd like. Generally, if I want something, I buy it. I feel silly actively not buying things that I want or need just so others have the "opportunity" to get them for me. I ended up just coming up with a couple of small items and throwing them out there as ideas. There's nobody giving me gifts this year who knows me well enough to be creative.
My mom and dad will both get a novel, both vaguely nautically and Scandinavian themed. My little brother who moved to Belgium this year and now has a Belgian girlfriend gets the Xenophobe's Guide to the Belgians ( ) and my little sister gets a 2-player boardgame to play with her boyfriend. My potential mother-in-law who is really big on horses gets a little Dalecarlian horse from my recent trip to Sweden. My best friend (whose birthday happens to be on christmas day!) gets a graphic novel about the artistic circle around Luis Buñuel. Still not sure what to get another friend and whether the gift should be related to the fact that she had her first child this year.
Since my significant other is a member here, his gifts shall remain a secret!
As for myself: a big pile of books (including luxurious graphic novels and a cool collection of fascinating futurological essays from around 1900), a simple silver sapphire bracelet and some perfume (Chanel No 5 Eau Première).
So far I haven't asked for anything except for something handwritten by the above mentioned bf, a calligraphy enthusiast.
