I was introduced to the concept in a business class. Initially I thought it seemed a little flimsy/situational, but followed up on it, and found this place.

My ENFJ friend got into MBTI and was curious about her friends' types, and her and I are always finding new ideas/things to explore, related to self-development. So, she shared MBTI with me, asked me to do a test, laughed when my type was revealed as that's what she had initially guessed for me. I started to research on my own, after, and came upon this site through searches. Was (and still am) skeptical about MBTI as a whole. Lurked for a bit, and then, a topic was posted with the assumption that functions are real, and can be quantitatively measured in isolation (SolitaryWalker). I couldn't not comment on this - so broke my lurker status, and posted.

I never revealed my type, initially.

One of my first interactions was with the infamous, Jack Flak, who guessed my type to be ENFP. Close, but no cigar.

It also coincided with a time in my life, where I was isolated, and bored, and it helped fill that - interaction/dialogue.

I wanted to know how ESFPs behave and there was a thread here "Ask an ESFP". I wanted to be able to recognise them visually from their behaviour. So I simply had to ask.

Thought I could enjoy discussions; be understood/accepted; get away from the constant projections, misunderstandings, and accusations that follow me around; get clarifications/insight into various personality/life related things; learn; look at pictures of hot women; hit on hot, flirt with, or tease hot (like-minded) women (you know, screw around); mingle with like-minded folks; and ask questions that were on my mind. All without bending or changing myself (all while being myself). Turns out I was wrong.

I'm one of the oldies who came from INTP central (whose owner started this site, and promoted it there) - at the time I thought I was an INTP, and was in my obsessive phase that tends to come with the discovery of any cool new thing, so I was googling around like crazy and found INTPc, which I liked enough to hang around. I stayed active at both sites for awhile, but found that I preferred this one. I like the dynamic environment that comes from having all different types, I guess.

I don't know how much I "believe in" typology anymore (I don't think binary traits are real, for example, I think it's more of a spectrum), but it's a convenient language for talking about personality differences that are observed, and for predicting how people of each "type" are thinking.

Did an online test, found it interesting which led to another site which had moved away from its initial MBTI premise and then to this one, since it still discussed MBTI and Jungian cognitive functions.

I was one of the founding staff/mods for this site, which was being started up (in 2007) by the site owner of INTPc as a kind of "sister site" tailored to all MBTI types vs just INTPs; and I was influential in helping to set up initial policies as well as encouraging non-INTPs from INTPc to make the leap over to this one in order to "seed" the site with some experienced contributing members, which would encourage new members to join.

I posted a LOT of material in the early days (mostly on MBTI but also on a variety of topics) to jumpstart the posting here and stayed on staff until early 2012.

Like Randomity, my interest in type has diminished somewhat, and my understanding of MBTI has shifted; but like her I do find it a convenient common language.
