Oh yeah, and I've never missed a payment on any of them...I have them automatically debit money from my bank account.

One. I see no reason for more. At times I have been tempted to sign up for certain store cards to get whatever incentive they are offering at the time, and then just cut the thing up. Too much risk vs reward though (vis-a-vis possible credit score impact, potential for theft/fraud if I leave dormant accounts around, etc). So I stick with one general purpose card.

    None.

I have 3. I only use one actively. One is my old one I keep at 0 balance because it's got a great credit limit and looks good on my credit score. The other is one of those store cards that gives you extra discounts and I just pay it off at the register immediately whenever I use it.

Two debit cards: one for my personal account (computers and guitars and all that stuff), one for our joint account (groceries).

0, but do have a debit card.

I've been thinking about getting a credit card or two with a good rewards program. I'd pay it off every month, but could take advantage of the bonuses, plus have it help my credit score.

I like that idea for money sharing. I've been thinking about how to manage that, when we start taking on bigger expenses together.

FYI, the above is why I use a credit card vs debit card.

As long as you have the discipline to pay your entire balance monthly a credit card gives you the reward benefits (in my case 1% cash back, so an effective 1% discount on all purchases) + 1 to 30 days free float (i.e. the money remains in my bank account accruing interest from purchase date to statement date). Currently, with bank account interest rates bordering on zero this perk is virtually worthless, but the principle is valid.

Of course, at the usurious interest rates of most reward cards, missing even one payment can undo an entire years worth of benefits. So user beware.
