It's just quicker to only have to click one or two things to find the thread I want as opposed to clicking on multiple subforum titles. And it makes it easier when you tend to "binge" post like I do. I'm not terribly active for a long time and then I come back.
Yeah I can see that. I am at the moment pretty consistently active and I stick to just a couple threads.
I don't usually seek out threads in the sub forums either. I just check to see which threads have the latest posts at the bottom of the page.
This is my primary way of navigating the forum. I have it set to subscribe me automagically to every thread I post in. Then I use the userCP as a launching pad, to see what's up in the threads I've posted in, and then look at Today's Posts to see what else is going on. If I get sick of seeing a thread pop up in my userCP I'll unsubscribe. (This happens a lot with threads I post in as a mod but am not interested in following on a regular basis.)
I was slow to add this functionality, but once I started missing replies (or discovering that someone replied to me 3 days after the fact), I set up the auto-subscribe. Haven't looked back.
am I the only person who can't make the commitment? I feel like it's too much responsibility.
I don't subscribe either. I prefer to browse the subforums quickly every so often. I don't miss too much for too long.
Hope is the denial of reality. It is the carrot dangled before the draft horse to keep him plodding along in a vain attempt to reach it. We should remove the carrot and walk forward with our eyes open. -- Raistlin Majere
