I wouldn't think too much about doing the time, but the long-term consequences of being a convict far exceed the short-term gain of the $5M.

you are only a troubled guest on the dark earth

This was my thinking too. A criminal record is serious business.

I don't know if I'd rule it out outright, but I'd learn towards no. I'd still think about it, of course, in the event of an actual offer. Not much point spending time thinking about it now.

This would be one of those decisions that no matter what you think you've prepared yourself for, the reality would differ and likely not be worth it. Kind of like "Breaking Bad" - where one decision leaves ripples in the water touching elements you could have never realized would be touched despite being a "mastermind".

So, no. Bad ju-ju here. Karmic danger-zones for sure.

Surprised at the amount of people who could give a shit about their freedom or who count it in monetary values, although it sort of explains a lot, its not a wonder that the real scumbags of this world look upon it as prepaid bed and board if that's the way the more thoughtful or reflective are gauging things.

I desire to learn the great ways of the Mastermind, and I'm ready for the epic journey, just give me a teacher. Wait, Masterminds are self-taught right? Then I shall be the Mastermind!

I'd forgo the freedom. Short term pain for long term gain. Most people will spend about (30 years * ~220 days/year * 8hr/day = 52800 hours ) "hard labor" for less than 5 mill career earnings. Compared to 365 days * 16hrs = 5840 hrs (deducting 8hrs day for sleeping) sitting around in a cell - the deal seems like a short cut to freedom to me.

The murder rate in prison is actually no worse than for the general public (in some cases you are safer in prison if you live in a low income area). I'm confident I could keep my head down in that regard.

However, the sexual assault thing is a real concern. It's like a 20% chance for men and re-occurences are common. That's probably a show stopper.

Maybe. There would have to be a stipulation that if I received the threat of violence the deal would be off, or I'd just get some of the money for serving some of the time. I don't know though, the bad food might make it not worth it. I don't sacrifice my health.
