DiscoBiscuit and I both come from fairly comfortable, traditional southern homes, we came of age in Washington, and we're identical typologically speaking. Chances are good that if he lived in Texas or I lived in Florida, we'd probably run in the same crowd of young professionals, sit on the same boards, and chill at the same bars. Most of my closest friends are good ol' boys that remind me a lot of him.
I think the ideological differences we have...I remember Disco saying one time that people who've spent any time on the Hill know that before things became as fractured as they are now, there was kind of this understanding amongst gentleman that you played to win in the ring, but at the end of the day everyone's on the same team. We're all fighting to make the country a better place, even if we didn't always agree on how to do it. It's not to say that politics is a game, exactly, but more that there were rules for how to engage and conduct oneself honorably. I say all this to say that for all kinds of enmeshed reasons of personal history, culture, and temperament Disco and I aren't generally as far apart on most things as it's fun for us to make it out to be. (Though, I may have just spoiled our little game by stating as much publicly lol. NO NEED TO LOOK AT THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN AMGS!!!)
