    Where are you from?
    Where are your ancestors from?

I've been told a while back, because my aunt went through the trouble of tracking ancestors on her side (my dad's side) over a decade ago. Irish, Welsh, Czech... Stuff like that.

I wish I had the breakdown but I don't. Maybe I'll do some tracking of my own sometime.

    What about you, Alcea?

I've never had the vested interest in posterity that seemed to occupy everyone else during a boom a last year. I don't really enjoy the thought of family connection. I can't justify caring more because of a bloodline. I'll stick to history.

-How beautiful, this pale Endymion hour.
    -What are you talking about?
-Endymion, my dear. A beautiful youth possessed by the moon.
-Well, forget about him and get to bed.
    -Yes, my dear.

Your bloodline is the history from which you came...

South of England. Recent centuries my ancestors came from the Midlands in England. I carry Viking blood.. so it's probably Danelaw ancestry for me.

My family record dates back to 1139 CE in ancient Bengal. The grandsire of my family was a kshatriya, a warrior-king, named _____.... I'm not yet willing to divulge names on the internet.

The record begins with a Sanskrit couplet which (paraphrased) reads something like this:

"In the Shaka year of the moon, the six season, nothingness, and the earth, *

The King of the _____'s was most afeared of Ballal Sen. **

With the family guru, a twice-born one named ______,

The King left to make a new home in the land of Vanga." ***

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    * 1061 Shaka is an Indian calendrical system. Year 1 of Shaka is equivalent to year 79 CE.

** Ballal Sen was a well-known conqueror of Middle Ages India. Apparently, the grandsire of my lineage, though a king, didn't have what it took to stand up to Ballal.

*** Vanga was the ancient name for Bengal.

I was born in Southern Finland (Tavastia) but my whole family lives in Eastern Finland (Savonia). My mother's family has lived in a local small town for centuries. They were poor farmers living in the middle of nowhere. We occasionally visit my grandparents' abandoned farm. It's nothing but forest, forest, forest there. (They say bears are a problem there.)

My father's family comes from Karelia (the easternmost Finland). They were rich and respected. When the Soviet Union invaded Finland and we lost most of the eastern parts, they had to move towards west. They had to become tenant farmers and they were scorned at. (Bad luck. )

I believe I carry some Russian-or-something genes.... I don't look very Scandinavian. My hair is not blonde (It's almost black.). My eyes are not blue (They are dark greenish grey.) And I'm easily tanned and I never burn myself in the sun. My father looks like Mediterranean-or-something.

My mother's side of the family is supposedly from County Laois in Ireland. Very agricultural part of Leinster. This is an interesting quotation: "The sept is one of those specially mentioned in the mid-sixteenth century official orders as hostile and dangerous to the English interest." Sounds about right.

My paternal grandfather's grandparents came to the United States from Abruzzo in Italy, on the eastern Adriatic Coast.

My paternal grandmother is of Scottish/Scots-Irish descent, and she was born in Southern Virginia. Her family has been in the country since the 18th Century. There is (again, supposedly) some Cherokee in this family line.
