I chose it because it was flicking people off, it is where most people would gravitate towards when looking at it.

I've had hula time honey for a few years now... I'm comfortable with her there and people kept telling me to bring her back when I changed, so it was easier!

I frequently had male avatars in the past and was called he pretty frequently (still get that sometimes... I must seem dude-like!) And people apparently react more aggressively towards male avatars in my experience

I haven't noticed any change in how people respond to me based on my avatars, but I definitely feel they are important to how I see others. The avatar is how you choose to present yourself on the internet. It is your "face" in the absence of your real one. Your choice of avatar generally says a lot about who you are, in my opinion. Sometimes it's just difficult to determine exactly what it says about you.

It's not like they you substantially change them much though.

It's always a feminine NF-ish guy that gives off a mix of idealist+sociopath vibes. The kind of guy who wouldn't mind blowing up an entire city as long as the animals are saved.

    Or something.

This truly made me laugh. Not even just exhaling more than usual, I flat-out laughed, and I'm not sure why.

Unless it's someone I've "known" for a long time, I tend to associate more with avatars than names, and there's almost certainly some semi-conscious interpretation of comments based on avatars, similar to the way most of us would be more agreeable to taking business advice from someone in a suit than someone dressed as a homeless person. An avatar is a much richer first impression than many names and first posts are, and a more (or, at least more general) holistic representation of someone's personality than their opinion on a specific topic. Once someone posts a lot, the avatar doesn't mean as much. But it still matters.

Mane's avatar is a good example. When he joined the forum (or, more appropriately, when I *noticed* he joined the forum), I immediately had a positive impression of his Tyrion avatar. Granted, his comments have certain Tyrion-like qualities, which reinforce the link, but would I have taken as much note of his posts had his avatar been, say, anime (which isn't an interest of mine)? Likely not.

I've been here since fall 2007, and have never changed my avatar. I think Haight's likely the only still-active person here whose avatar has a longer tenure :p.

I guess there's some truth to it then.
