It puts women in a funny position because if you are sensitive to it, then you are playing into the premise.

The concept of it is offensive and clearly demonstrates power imbalance in society.

On a personal level, I don't think the men who think that way are particularly strong internally, so they just seem ridiculous.

    indifferent

media portrayal is getting better, and I'd think that many people just use those phrases to refer to an archetype(s) and don't actually believe that the traits correlate with gender.

an unhelpful archetype that perpetuates the sexism it was borne of, if only to a tiny degree, but whatever. I don't expect a lot from people.

I wouldn't say it "bothers" me except that, as fia says, it's symptomatic of a power imbalance- that's what bothers me for real. Intellectually I notice it and now that I have a daughter I usually say something about it because I want to do my part to fix the common mindset that unknowingly perpetuates that imbalance so maybe things will be better for her as she becomes an adult.

Exactly. It demonstrates that we value maleness and masculinity and not femaleness/femininity. It's just a small part of what is wrong with society, so these things bother me... although they bother me less than some other sexist things.

I don't think the offensiveness is in the intent of the speaker, however. Associating femaleness with weakness is inherently sexist. And I don't blame people who don't mean to say sexist things, but... the fact is that they are perpetuating stereotypes, even unconsciously. Our unconscious assumptions about men and women say a lot, however.

I find it an unfortunate phenomenon that a lot of women don't like other women or femininity just because of inaccurate stereotypes that have been imposed on 51% of the human population...

hey man, you have a question on your mind you just go ahead and ask it - no fear of how it might get you to be perceived, you get to the point and know what you don't know and what you'd like to know, and you get right to it. i admire that.

i guess what i am really saying is:
