    Default Bidet or toilet paper?

Following on from the bath/shower thread.

Here in Britain, it's very hard to find a bidet. I miss them greatly. I can't believe a first world country, and everyone still relies on the barbaric method of toilet paper. WTF?

the only explanation is that the English are all repressed homosexuals and a small shot of water in their anus would "convert" them.

The price is, 10 times longer spent in the bathroom.

    Vote away.

    Ooookay....

I've never actually used a bidet, so how do they work exactly? What if things got a bit...erm...messy? Wouldn't a little squirt of water not be good enough to clean anything?

Without wishing to be vulgar, much less scatological...it is usual to have paper at hand when using bidet. simply that it is much less central to the process.

Both would be ideal, each usually being insufficient on their own.

Perhaps I should have been clearer. Bidet usually presupposes some toilet paper at hand. Essentially the question is "to bidet or not to bidet"

Bidets are like...quadricep raises while doing one's business?

I've heard a rumor that bidets are more "hygenically sound" than toilet paper... but I also have never used one (though I've had more than a few chances to). Is it sort of the equivalent to using a hose?

I've never actually used one. How's that work? You use the toilet and then move on over? And what about drying off? Can you adjust the amount of water as needed? Where does the toilet paper go? I mean, a bidet can't be flushed can it? Pardon my ignorance. The only bidet I ever remember seeing was at my aunt and incle's when I was about six.
