My confession is I started typing stuff here then deleted it and wrote this instead

Sorry... with your size 12 heels on, you're way too tall for a Number Six from me.

You'll have to stand on a milk crate.

I was emotionally and physically abused as a young child by my mother who had anger management problems. It was not extreme, but it was long-term. I feel guilty about acknowledging that it was abuse, because she has since matured and is a wonderful, giving, kind person. She always was, to be truthful. She just handled her rage in the wrong way. I would never say to anyone that she abused me. Never frame it like that. But I know it is true.
I fear it has made me incapable of trusting anyone to get too close to me. I always have a wall, even when I appear to have a warm demeanor. It has cost me at least one relationship before. Several, probably. I find myself drawn to men who appear walled-in like myself and to women who remind me of my mother.
The wall makes me appear impervious to the slings of others. To an extent, this is true. I care little about most people's opinions. Things that are important to them are mere trifles to me. But it also attracts destructive behavior from certain people who read my distance as arrogant smugness and feel demeaned unless they try to destroy me. I have gone through this cycle several times. The weapons they use do not hurt me nearly as much as the knowledge that they want to kill me inside for something that is not attacking them and is largely beyond my control at this point.
