I love winter, to me there are very few natural occurrences that beat snow for the ability to awaken and influence the imagination.
'One of (Lucas) Cranach's masterpieces, discussed by (Joseph) Koerner, is in it's self-referentiality the perfect expression of left-hemisphere emptiness and a precursor of post-modernism. There is no longer anything to point to beyond, nothing Other, so it points pointlessly to itself.' - Iain McGilChrist

Suppose a tree fell down, Pooh, when we were underneath it?"
"Suppose it didn't," said Pooh, after careful thought.
    Piglet was comforted by this.
    - A.A. Milne.

I have a love/hate relationship with winter, I love the time it gives me to get reacquainted with preexisting interests and incorporate new ones, but I hate it because of endless weeks of craptastic choices on TV when the roads get too messy to do much besides run brief errands since we did enough of that this summer when the weather was intense. Time spent with friends on the other hand is more fun in the winter than in the summer since there's more time to experiment with random projects that we do when we're easily amused and its more relaxed when there's time to chit chat without having to feel like you're being selfish towards others by monopolizing parts of a room/ place that's public domain to have a private conversation in between the hustle and bustle of the day.

    I'm mostly a summer person.

But there's something about going to the ice rink, snow whipping through my hair, playing and watching these lovely sports of the north...everyone either curling or practicing their stick-handling...sometimes drinking beer, too, if it's late at night, that just...oh, man. Love. Lovelovelove.

This entire paragraph makes me all warm and fuzzy.
I like to rock n' roll all night and *part* of every day. I usually have errands... I can only rock from like 1-3.

I function better in the winter. I just don' like what happens when the snow begins to melt and everything is a mess. Spring is fine otherwise as well.

    Lines for Winter
    By Mark Strand

    for Ros Krauss

    Tell yourself
as it gets cold and gray falls from the air
    that you will go on
    walking, hearing
the same tune no matter where
    you find yourself—
    inside the dome of dark
    or under the cracking white
of the moon's gaze in a valley of snow.
    Tonight as it gets cold
    tell yourself
what you know which is nothing
but the tune your bones play
as you keep going. And you will be able
for once to lie down under the small fire
    of winter stars.
And if it happens that you cannot
    go on or turn back
    and you find yourself
where you will be at the end,
    tell yourself
in that final flowing of cold through your limbs
that you love what you are.
the formless thing which gives things form!

I live in the northeastern US. I like winter. I can do without extreme cold, but normal cold weather isn't a big deal. I really like snow, especially when I don't have to drive in it.

Yes. Winter is wonderful when you get snow and not some mix of rain/snow, when it's always wet.

I definitely like some aspects of it... But....not all of it. I love snow, but I hate the people that drive like morons in it. I like staying inside and snuggling by the fire....but my fireplace is out of commission right now. Besides, winter has my two favorite holidays. Christmas and New Years!
