what is this, aesthetics 101? You goons need to stop bringing your community college courses to the boards!
but yeah, beauty is subjective whatever the hell it is. I think i'll go with the notion that it's an internal percept, the aim of which has no proper name, title or category. I've got a big poster of a mushroom cloud above my bed because it's so frigthening and awesome that it's beautiful to me.
I had voted "an Ideal" because it seemed the best of the limited options.
Beauty does not have to conform to an already defined ideal, rather it is possible for elements to purposefully or accidentally come together in a way that can be sensed as "beautiful" seen in context?
Aesthetic sense can be developed and refined to a degree where one can find beauty almost constantly...though this seems a bit self-indulgent and impractical.
Patriotism is the last refuge to which a scoundrel clings...Steal a little and they throw you in jail, steal a lot and they make you a king
To me, beauty is an ideal. Though what I consider beautiful may not be perfect. It might be perfect in its imperfections, or the imperfections themselves enhance the ideal. Beauty may be an object or person appreciated by many or just one. It truly is subjective. I think for me, it's always an aspiration, though not in the shallowest sense of the word. I see beauty and want to somehow become it, if that makes sense. I don't mean "work out a whole lot" or "get Botox," just become the type of thing that inspires, maybe.
- is it because the song is universally beautiful?
- is it because the song evokes a response that I associate with a prior experience?
- is it because the song is close to perfection?
- does it defy qualification?
