I usually just ice break with a random comment instead of introducing myself... it's always worked for me in the past

most people I meet have no idea where I went to school or what I studied... many don't even know my name if I get my way... the idea of introducing myself by pointing out my job or education kind of mystifies me

To be honest, this is what I do as well.

    - Hey is that a...
    - Did you see...
    - Have you heard about...

    etc.

it works like a charm almost every time!

plus, the lack of formality makes the interaction more comfortable...

The amount of information disclosed depends a lot on the setting though my default mode is usually to use a combination of these:

    I like the Jackass intros

"Hi, I'm Johnny Knoxville, and I'm going to verb some nouns"

Except instead of riding carts down the freeway, I'm doing something much more mundane like scraping ice off my car

"I'm Beargryllz and today I'm going to try coffee with milk"

This is exciting because I've always preferred black coffee, but I don't even remember what coffee & milk tastes like. You can mix all sorts of things together and find something new

Verb your nouns and tell people about it

Hi, I'm Fluffywolf and I'm going to talk to you.

    ... Doesn't that seem a bit creepy?

PS: Liking the username and the coffee with milk. Reminds me of that parody of a fake bear grylls surviving in the city.

i don't know. where i live it's more common that people ask you where you come from than what you do for a living. i guess regional identity is felt more than professional identity in many countries in Europe that have spent centuries fighting each other and fighting for a unique identity.

so there, i suggest you say where you are from and talk about your origins. does that sound weird to you?

The purpose of small talk is to put our critical mind to sleep so that we can reveal our disposition, our emotions and our unconscious desires through our body language.

Good grief. Or more accurately, good luck. People who try that with me usually end up misunderstand me completely.
I've been called a criminal, a terrorist, and a threat to the known universe. But everything you were told is a lie. The truth is, they've taken our freedom, our home, and our future. The time has come for all humanity to take a stand...
