Hm... I've never actually "played" a Final Fantasy game before. I'ma play a bit with FFIV right now, and see if I can find interest in the art of Japanese RPGs. I hope so.

Japanese RPGs are my favorite video games, period. Hope you enjoy them.

Out of curiosity, which FFIV are you playing? The original, or the re-release for PS1?

It's the PS1 version! In hopes that it is better than the original.

I asked because in Japan, FFIV came in "easy mode" and "hard mode", and the English-language PS1 version is "hard mode". I never played "easy mode", because I never owned any Nintendo consoles, but I found the PS1 "hard mode" version to be too difficult to even get 2/3 of the way through, let alone finish. So be warned that the difficulty level is not representative of the genre overall.

Oh God. I may just have to grind more than necessary so that I can pass. Or maybe just learn Japanese.

Excessive grinding should work fine. I should have done more of that tbh. Part of why I gave up on it was because I got stuck in a dungeon, unable to escape or grind because I'd run out of items and the enemies were too difficult.

Alternately, I'd start with a different FF. Most people like FFVII the best, but I like FFVI and FFIX. I think FFIX was my first FF. (I also liked FFX, but that's not available for PS1)

Yeah, and I'm glad it's happening. The animation in the original FFVII did NOT age well. Some older animation looks great later on, but the FFVII animation is a massive eyesore now*. I hate looking at it.

At the same time, I'd rather they finally make Chrono Break like they promised a million years ago.

*To clarify, I'm talking about the animation that actually moves. Not the backgrounds. I still use that initial panoramic shot of Midgar as the background on my laptop.

Okay I'll just listen to your words of wisdom and begin with FFVII. ^_^

Yeah, I can appreciate old animation in some vintage games like Pokemon, Digimon World, Super Smash Bros, Sonic Adventure, etc but with the kind of game FFVII was it really undermined some parts of the game.

It's funny how even though I've never played the games, I somehow still know that Sephiroth kills Aerith. I feel like that is one of the most talked about/overhyped scenes in the game and it ends up being the only thing I remember from hearing about the series.
