I hate when people judge Jenny. She was an abused child, and gosh darnit, why didn't she want to marry a mildly retarded man when she was of normal intelligence?

Come on. Get real. She had issues, and most of you wouldn't marry someone with a compromised level of intelligence either, at least not early in life, I think she went back to him in the end because of Agape love in her final year(s), not because of any real Eros.

I want to marry Forrest. Seriously.
I haven't seen it since it was somewhat new. I saw some bits of it and noticed the effects (especially things like the edits involved in the John Lennon bit) were kind of dated. I know what you mean about wanting to marry him, though. Talk about consistency and reliability.

It is, and you've described it perfectly. Forrest is childlike in his simplicity. He's always there for her and never demands anything of her. He doesn't spend his life wasting away while she's off doing whatever, either. He lives a very full life, becomes a war hero, makes a lot of money, and helps a lot of people. He is the perfect example of a selfless, unassuming, solid rock for a woman who needed it so badly. Even if she didn't realize it until she was dying.

Well yeah, she's kind of a mess, but who isn't. At one point in the film he explains it to her, "because you're my girl." It's simple to him, if naïve to her. And he's adamant that he knows "what love is." To him, it's permanence, and the bond they formed in childhood was forever.
