Default Why do people Necro threads???

DISCLAIMER: I am writing my dissertation, due in 10 days, as well as working, so not leaving the house much in the past week. Therefore procrastinating a lot on TypoC and whining about these minor issues. That aside, let the whining commence.

What would posses you reply to a 1, 2, 3 year old thread just like it was written yesterday, no explanation of extraordinary circumstances?

Why is it annoying? Because I see the OP, reply as if I'm participating in a normal discussion,t hen I realize the guy who wrote it died/moved to China/had a sex change since then and hasn't posted for 3 years.

Or worse, he is still around, doesn't even remember writing something that he didn't even believe at the time, and gets a notification and thinks "why is this dickhead replying to my 5-years-ago-self as if that was still relevant"...It's like replying to a 5 y/o text message.

But by now I have read the post and want to reply, but I can't because I don't want to be so annoying to that person, to force them to have to account for something they wrote years ago. So basically it's like reading an article which I can't comment on.

This is a rant, but also, I would also genuinely like to know what goes through the mind of a cyber-necrophiliac...why not just start a new thread or say nothing?

My theory: Because of the lulz.

But I think @RaptorWizard would have the best answer, for obvious reasons.

Probably just neglected to look at the date stamp on the OP.

    That's my opinion.

The latest snafu was a thread from Summer 2007 and the person hasn't posted for three years. Wheee.

The threads that are resurrected are much better than any of the current ones being posted.

This forum is old and jaded now, but once upon a time we were young and starry eyed.

Can't resist wielding their power over the dead. Ah, these (this) necromancers.

Some of the best threads in this forum are from years ago.

Assuming this to be true, then it would be better to let the dead rest in peace rather than resurrecting them and bringing them down to the current inferior level.
