    Default ....then what?

Let's say I manage it....a nice house with lots of land, a second house, an apartment in the city, a plane to fly around in, the car I want, enough to travel with, a nice job, an ngo, a research lab, a telescope, an amazing wife, a bunch of kids, a couple of dogs, time enough to enjoy life, living morally responsibly...

    ...then what?

Is that all life is? Just the pursuit of an idealized version of my life? Am I missing something?

Then you die. You made out a list of the stuff you want, so for you it is the pursuit of that stuff. Others might have other goals. Why do you want the things you want, what do they mean to you? Those are the goals, you reach one, then set another and so on. If you find meaning in the pursuit, you're doing something right. If you can't get any satisfaction then you're doing it wrong (maybe the goals need reviewing). Life is what you make of it.

    Am I missing something?
Actually, you're starting to get it.

Life is much less. You have already adorned it with seemingly meaningful bowknots.

I suppose the better question to pose might be, do you need it to mean something more? Anything at all?
    Why?

Life is life. Life is being.
It's not doing, it's not having, it's being.

The things you list are not life. They are mere accessories that you might collect on the way. If you see that as life, then yes it will always be "Is this all?" and yes, it will always be missing something.

Life isnt anything until you've mastered the art of loving, the art of being and made the perfect cup of coffee.

The perfect cup of coffee is a feat no man can master.

Coffee is what you make of it.

In a way, it'd be nice if life were as elegant as The Game of Life or if we had a rulebook. I've heard it said that the only 'point' of life is to experience it, and I'm mulling over whether that's true.

You should read CS Lewis' The Four Loves and Erich Fromm's Art of Being and Art of Loving, you will see life in an entirely different way, and those are just two sources which have examined life carefully and, I would say, hopefully.

Of course, no sense reading those or listening to them on audiobook (I've done both) without a nice big cup of coffee. Points if it has a tree of life or heart in the foam.
