# Thread: favorite number and why

1. 27!

because I see it everywhere.

2. I named some numbers for sentimental reasons, but the number I like for itself is 6. It just seems perfect, even though it's considered an evil number. 1 + 2 + 3 = 6. 1 * 2 * 3 = 6. If you take a compass and make a circle and make the same diameter arcs around its circumference, it will be the flower of life, with 6 petals.

3. 2 and 19. No idea why.

5. Two (2) ! I've explained this before and got someone irritated. Two is even, and I love even numbers. It forms the basis of all even numbers, thank God. And there is no simpler way to define it other than describing it in terms of "one" and "zero," which are so basic that I do not consider them numbers. From these three numbers, we can start to describe all other numbers, thus the beauty of 2.

Most legitimately beautiful answer that could exist. Two is gravely relevant to the world.

Who got upset and why?

7. 7.

Because God is Seven.

8. I like my birthday very much: 11/29.

Both are prime numbers. They're also not the most commonly mentioned prime numbers but are still within the commonly occurring eschalon.

And I like how 29 adds up (2+9) to 11.

(And then of course 11 adds up to 2, which people have already extolled the virtues of, here.)

So when I'm feeling simplistic, 11 is pretty cool. When I want a number with more flavor, I like 29.

...However, if we're going for sheer musical content:

9. 2^n (n = 8,9,10,12,14,16,24,32) - relevent to audio and video signal processing
n^2 (n = 2,3,4,5,8,10,16,32,64,128,256,512,1024) - relevent to texture storage and antialiasing in games
((sin(pi*x)*sin(pi*y))/((pi^2)*xy)) - tensor orthogonal sinc function for image resampling
420 - 4:2:0 is the chroma subsampling method in digital video where the color signal is quartered in size to reduce the video bandwidth by half
422 - 4:2:2 reduces bandwidth by one third
444 - 4:4:4 is full resolution color signal

10. 27, because of the club.
