every normal man must be tempted, at times,
to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag,
    and begin slitting throats.

I hadn't considered that. I avoid sleazy threads because they are sleazy. Not because I'm intimidated. Also boring treads because they are boring, etc, etc.

I'm specifically looking for your feelings about "aggressive" posters. Sexual-harassment is certainly a valid reason to be intimidated too.

It's not sexual harassment, more of an untertone of a larger game. Many people here know i am a little prudish at times. One surefire way of getting me to leave a thread is by lowering the tone to base notes.

I'm pretty sure certain members have used this to their advantage/amusement. Possibly not realising how offended i feel by it.

I don't always go into the Politics and Current Events forum...

But when I do, I just drive-by post and then rarely if ever look at the thread again

I can't say I had noticed that about you. Maybe I'm mixing you up with someone else...

    Or possibly realising...
While not what I had in mind when I started this thread, this is a good point. I have noticed a number of male posters use very aggressive, vulgar sexual obscenities to intimidate female posters from participating in threads.
I think this ought to be moderated.

Could you name a few examples?

Well there are certain things i am comfortable talking about in the general. When it becomes personal however i often bow out.

I'm sure this happens, and also in the reverse (female intimidating male), though i think it's more frequent for male members to intimidate females using the rep system. There a couple of creepy stalkerish types that i believe could be quite harmful.
But then i suppose it's up to people to personally report any abuse.

I don't think people always recognise it as abuse. I didn't, until you pointed it out.

I voted sometimes because there's some users I think are cracked, not on every subject but on some of them and sometimes I think they've got grudges too. It doesnt stop me posting for the most part, although now and again I'll not bother because I'm not looking forward to the predictable flip out.

No, not intimidated. I don't really have the kind of style that drags me into battles though.
