I know music works to make many people concentrate. It has never worked for me. Music is just another distraction.

EDIT: Sorry, that's a lie. It used to work for me. When I was in high school I'd zone out to music when I was doing tests. Especially math. I don't know whether it served to hinder or help; my grades were excellent.

^^^ my friend would blast me for listening to music while studying. he's very smart, he told me the only way you could recall what you're studying is if you listened to the music while taking the test.

    I always aced my tests.

^^ actually music works for me with concentrating/zoning out/overall relaxing my brain on everything BUT reading. I'm a pretty strong verbal/linguistic learner, as well as auditory/musical. It's distracting to take in music while reading/writing, my mind wants to wander into the music too much. That said, I actually didn't mind TV on as background noise while doing homework.. as for studying.. never really did it. Typically homework assignments were enough to retain the information for test regurgitation later on. /shrug

Seriously... The bathroom used to be my escape. I could go in there and shower, use the toilet, floss my teeth, etc. in peace and quiet... And then my animals figured it out... If I'm in the bathroom they think that means more time to love on them....

I end up with a cat trying to do this. ^
Or... A cat beating on the other side of the door.

With my one cat and my old dog, I could turn on the shower and they'd bolt...but the other cat is absolutely fascinated by it... So that doesn't work with her.
That is hilarious. My dogs do that too. They have no shame. Now they will scratch and whine at the door until I let them in. Unless I run water first in which case one of them who hates bathing will run the other way.

Growing up in CA I hate to say it folks but 25 minute showers are hella wasteful!. /Says the girl who prefers full on baths. But having lived through a drought and being around hippies I at least have a twinge of guilt when I get my luxurious on.

I lived in a motel one time for 5 months that had On-Demand hot water, and most all motels have On-Demand , which they run hot water continually. I got into a habit of taking hour long and sometime 90 minute showers. I would soap up and wash for about 5 minutes then I'd sit down and prop up against the wall, put a rag over my face and just go into deep meditation while the shower kept running.

I can't take a long shower and not feel guilty. 5 minutes is tops.

In my experience, the people who take long showers are the people:
1.) who don't pay the water bill
2.) who don't pay the electrical or gas bill for the HWT
3.) haven't lived in a place where droughts are common and water scarce

If I really want to luxuriate or if I think my muscles are going to be super-sore the next day, it's the tub. Even then I feel guilty taking more than a couple of inches. When I was growing up on our farm, we didn't have an especially great well, and as kids we were only allowed to have an inch and a half of water in the tub for our ablutions. Early lessons not to waste water run deeper.

This reminded me, actually- I avoid going over ten min tops when I shower at other people's places. For the reasons you posted; I don't live there or pay their utilities, as I would for my own. I don't mind when people take long showers at my place, but maybe that's because I don't have anyone over often enough for it to be an issue, financially.
