    You'd better be packing a decent caliber of gun. I think bears could actually take a few .45's in the skull and they might just bounce off; if they take them in the body, even if it mortally wounds them, the bear probably will not realize it's dead for a crucial 20 seconds or so. At least, as far as the grizzlies / brown bears go.

    (Been impressed and respectful of bears ever since I saw The Edge.)

    if you're using a smaller caliber, I will not be held responsible. You might have to resort to the flamethrower (!).

    (Now there's an Intimidation check +15 -- a flaming bear charging at you across the yard... eek!)
