Default What brings value to your life?

I'm not sure if this has been elsewhere previously, but I don't remember seeing a similar thread,so...

What adds a spark to your day? What is it that drives you to get out of bed every/some morning(s)? What is it that you have in your life that you couldn't bear to be without? What do you dedicate much of your free time/thought capacity to?

Answers on a postcard (or preferably here) please. I'm going to be tough and give you one choice, so use it wisely - and please expand on any answers given, particularly for the more nebulous responses

Both work and knowledge seem to do it, plus other achievements such as finishing books, getting some goal done in a computer game, etc.

In general, I don't believe I have a purpose for anything, that I'm special, that I have a fate or whatever. I'm agnostic and am not spiritual at all. I live in the present. I do not hope nor expect anything from the world.

Relationships come and go. I do not depend on them. I'm pretty self sufficient. I do not place any value upon work in itself. I happen to do what I like... but do not pride myself in working for working. If tomorrow I was rich, I wouldn't continue to work and would just concentrate on having fun.

I rejoice in the simple things in life. I like earthly pleasures. I can be materialistic. I like all forms of art. Anything stimulating for my mind. I like intellectual stimulation more as a way to have fun and give me pragmatic benefits than for knowledge as an end in itself.

Hmm, on reflection I really should have added a "pursuit of pleasure" option (if I understand you correctly, Maverick).

It's interesting that nobody has selected family, socialising or religion yet. What I'm looking for here are variations across types, but I'm not sure if any clear distinctions are going to become apparent...

You only made the poll this morning. Give it time. I find value in many things but if forced to choose I'll say family.

Fair point. Sundays always seem to agitate me, I'm restless and impatient...

Sorry Shimpei, but I figured that would make the results far too difficult to decipher. I appreciate that picking one out is not easy, but that's the point (sort of).

Seeing my boyfriend. Just seeing him and saying "hello"...just that alone makes everything else infinitely brighter and more hopeful. So, as you can imagine, anything else that follows is like watching a sun explode in its brightness.

Oh yes, and dreams...stories...knowing that waking up the next morning will mean I'll feel better and refreshed. I get to start again.

I would have to say a combo of relationships and pursuit of knowledge (not truth though). This means that I want to learn, but I want to have a couple of people along with me in the pursuit to discuss matters and perhaps grow together.
