I haven't reported anyone on this forum. I did report someone on a different forum for continously posting porn and never contributing anything meaningful to discussion.

There was only one incident where I reported someone.

It was when @jixmixfix called me a “noob”… That was crossing the goddamn line and he knows it.

I know it's been said before, but if I could just reiterate a couple things:

    1) we often don't see posts unless they're reported. even if we post in the thread, we often skim or don't read the earlier posts, just like you. when we do see offending posts without a report we definitely still act, but the forum is so big now that I don't even read a fraction of the new posts every day.

    2) reporting in no way means that the reported post will be punished. It's 100% just to bring the post to our attention and then we discuss it. That said, if say 5 people report a post we see that it's causing a disturbance on the forum and will consider that in the discussion. this sometimes means a post might be removed even if it isn't bad enough to warrant more action.

    3) if you think the forum rules should be enforced as consistently as humanly possible (I do!), then it's in your interest and everyone else's interest to report posts that you think cross the line. Again, don't worry too much about getting the person in trouble - if the post doesn't break the rules, they won't get in trouble even if it's reported 20 times.

thanks for your attention, please carry on.

I've reported a number of people in my blog, but not all of them are banned from it. Could this be due to the incompetent moderators that I should report, as well?

There's a big problem when I'm harassed in my blog, as I don't harass others in their blog...come to think of it, I hardly ever post in other people's blogs. See how nice I am?

we can't really talk about the details of reported posts. But I would say not really. And of course if that happened we would see the pattern as well as the number of reports, which is why it's helpful to have people rather than robots moderating.

ah I wasn't asking for details, just in general but this answered my question, thank you.

If you clearly tell someone not to post in your blog, and they continue to do so, then we can threadban them. Most people will stay away when you tell them to, so threadbanning is a last resort rather than a first step. If you have done this and they are still posting there, then you can ask for them to be threadbanned.

Blogs (edit: and threads started in Personal Threads) are the ONLY thread on the forum that you can control anywhere near this much, in case that was unclear. Any other thread you start is fair game for anyone who doesn't break the rules.

Hahaha, reading this thread would give the impression that people here are generally above using the report function. If my days as a mod - limited though they were - are in any way representational, I can say with some authority that the opposite is true...you people are report fucking happy! Don't lie now!
