I actually saved it to a Word document based on that very same concern.

Believe it or not, this stuff is complete gold and I can't just make it up again on the spot.

So you're about to put your finishing touches on your well thought-out but very disconnected sixteen-page rambling on your thesis that Michael Jackson is classified as an ESTj under the Socionics system. Great!

One small problem--what if the Internet never gets to see your marvelous work? What if you click "Post".. and it never actually posts? After all, there are sometimes instantaneous glitches that prevent a post from going through. These things are nobody's fault (except @Jennifer's).

Fear not! Just before you hit "Post," hold Ctrl, then press A, then C (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C). Congratulations; you've selected your whole terrible essay and copied it to your clipboard. Now, if a fuckup occurs, you can just paste the thing into a new post with a Ctrl+V, and you're good to go.

Even better--if you make CTRL+A, CTRL+C a mental habit, like I do, it happens pretty much by itself! How amazing is that!?

Now, the world will never be deprived of your intellectual contributions.

I had a great reply to this but I lost it in the same place my extra socks go.

If only I had READ your post!!!!! I could have saved us all!

I actually compose longer posts in a text editor first, then copy into the TC reply box.

If you forget and something hangs up when you choose "submit reply", it usually works to hit back on your browser, which will return you to what you have typed, then ctrl-A, ctrl-C, and paste into something else. This is not guaranteed to work, though.

Yeah, I back my "pre-posts" up as full-blown submissions to Science, Nature, or American Psychologist before I press "Post."

I usually type long posts into a word processing program, then copy and paste the text to the forum. One time I spent 90 minutes on a post and I got booted off the forum just as I pressed reply. Never again will I lose all that time on a reply that never gets posted.

The benefit of typing it out on the forum post field is you have access to the formatting buttons. You can format it in a word processing program, but depending on the browser, you might not be able to transfer it over to the WYSIWYG editor.

Post it on another forum first.
