Retardation is something beyond one's control; I feel bad using the word 'retard.' But there's no such thing as a redneck gene even though some love to think so.

Nonetheless.... it's possible to GOT DIXIE IN MY BLOOD!!!

My momma is from the south; Eastern Tennessee, to be exact, where there are hillbillies living in poverty in tarpaper shacks.
I have learned to disdain the stereotype of southerners as stupid, slack-jawed rednecks.

Do you enjoy being portrayed by the guys on Swamp People or Hillbilly Handfishin?
I'm actually a big fan of swamp people.

They hunt gators with hooked lines they've attached to trees. They put rotten chicken on the hook, dangle it a number of inches above the surface of the water, and wait.

Once they've got a gator on the line, they pull up to the line which they then have to pull in with their hands.

At which point, they shoot the gator. The only problem, is that they use .22 rifles.

Meaning that the spot on the head of the gator you have to hit to kill them is the size of a quarter.

The gator isn't sitting still for this, so the difficulty of what these guys do is incredible.

More importantly, do I see these guys as representations of Southern culture? Absolutely.

Do I therefore take their actions to reflect on me personally?
    Not really.

Do I think their actions reflect poorly on Southerners?
    No.

The only way you would think that is if you don't like that part of Southern culture they represent (which isn't huge).

I have no shame in being Southern. I'm proud of it.

It's part of a shared culture that has been a great lens through which my family has viewed the world for generations.

I know I would be rather irritated to have this shown on tv if I was a southerner.
    Why?

It would be pointless for me to explain because you view it through this lens.
I like to rock n' roll all night and *part* of every day. I usually have errands... I can only rock from like 1-3.

Discuss people turning into heinous creatures right before your very eyes
And on another forum, in a galaxy far, far away, there is a poster creating a thread "My brother sounds like a drug addict."

Yeah, & that has absolutely nothing to do with me because all the people I know live in this galaxy & I don't care about galactic travelers nor their brothers.

I’ve always considers retardation as just a number on a IQ scale, too much lead in ones diet at a early age or too many thunks on ones head could also lead to it.
