It has been said that if someone doesn't like you it's because they don't like something about themself..and they see that thing in you.

Sounds like a poor excuse for bad behaviour for the most part.

To me it sounds like a good way of distinguishing fact from opinion and reading people. I find it to be true in most cases where personal bias prevails, but less so in cases where people are discussing the impersonal and the demonstrable.

To an extent I believe this is true but a lot of violence has been done to decent theories like rationalisation and projection by pop psychology.

It can be but that doesnt necessarily make it so in all cases, its the old question of whether it's "me or you", in some ways I'm beginning to think that its got more to do with the interaction than just the individual, how else would you explain how one group of people receive one person as a great person when another so clearly receives them and thinks they're an asshole?

I'm weird and detached. I'm too quiet for some people.

I'm an authority figure and most people hate authority and authority figures, including most authoritarians.

I possess moral clarity, certainty and principled assurity, people hate those things, they prefer doubts, indecision and ambivalence. No one likes to nail their colours to the mast and in my experience are prepared to hate those that do.

Besides that there's the usual business of projection going on, ego or personality struggles and clashes. Nothing too sophisticated about that.

I've always found this to be a meaningless rationalization for one's flaws. Sort of the gussied up equivalent of "NO U!"

To answer the question, people have disliked me before because I can be rambunctious and crude.
