    Broadly: corporate dominance, maybe?
Essentially, the "profit!" culture and mentality which, among other things:

    - skews resource distribution & management
    - downplays the importance of environmental sustainability
    - corrupts politics and major establishments such as the food & agriculture industry
    - capitalizes on human exploitation* & cultural desensitization
    - contributes to social discrimination
    - encourages anti-social attitudes
    - rewards anti-social behaviors

*e.g. human trafficking, the underground of things such as the fashion and adult entertainment industries, child labor...

I also find it unpleasant that it's rocket-fueled the commercialization of things such as religion.

    Over population.

I can't see how any other issue supercedes this one.

In my opinion overpopulation is the root from which, pretty much, all our other issues arise.

Avoidance of a global government, and then the rejection of every "worldwide important social issue".

So far, this is the best I've come up with. I'd say the biggest cause for overpopulation is ignorance of and access to family planning. (Psst @ Catholic church with your 1+ billion followers, you ain't helping!)

Populations are self-limiting under almost all imaginable circumstances, one way or another

I would say that this is an issue which has solved itself without social intervention (or perhaps through social intervention)

As far as I know overpopulation is a consequence - not a cause. The cause for overpopulation is poverty. Developed countries do not have overpopulation issues, quite the opposite in fact. Poor countries on the other hand are procreating like crazy for survival reasons (although in the end it only makes the matter worse).

Overpopulation is a consequence of opportunity

Humans have tremendous amounts of resources at their disposal with which they proliferate rapidly

Removing competitor species, negating pressure from bacterial & viral infection, and building agricultural infrastructure have created huge opportunities for humans around the globe
