The original question was about helping someone find purpose in life. So, yes, in that light!

Ask your friend what he would do if some unknown benefactor promised to give him a $1000 bucks a week for the rest of his life (i.e he didn't have to work but wasn't ever going to be rich). Get him/her to think about what he'd do if money wasn't an issue but he didn't have it to burn.

The answer might really surprise you, but my general advice is just skip all the jumping through hoops of life and just go to where you want to get.

More specifically just try as many new things a possible.
    Indoor/outdoor rock climbing
    Wheel Chair Basketball
    Dancing Lessons.
Go do an "adventure" activity (e.g swim with dolphins, whale watching)
    Do some work for charity.
    Yoga.

If he gets addicted to rock climbing, he'll have a whole new perspective on life.

Nooooo. It was about someone bored in life who's looking to shake things up.

Even (especially?) if you take the statement at face value, my answer's solid!

If you're looking to shake things up, falling in love is more effective than getting laid, in my experience. Of course, doing both is better.

Most people who are 'bored' in their lives fall into a few categories:

1/ Those who don't knwo what they want, and thus they waste time trying to work it out rather than trying.
2/ Those who know what they want but are too chicken to go after it or think they don't deserve it (this was me actually)
3/ Those who's lives have jsut become too predictable and safe and don't have the energy to shake thems form the compfort of the repetitive and secure routine (this was also me a bit)
4/ Those suffering form geniune depression...

1 and 4 are the worst options, the other two are sortable.

Personally I like the baz lurhman lyric, "Do something which frieghtens you everyday" (for me this is not bothering to check my spelling on intpc)

other than that no idea how to help your friend... and seriously Notaprettygirl my life has been far from boring in the last 12 months. A little too much not boring to behonest...
