Coke when I'm with family. Pop to my wife (she's from Iowa). Soda to everyone else out here on the East Cast.

That's exactly what "soda" makes me think of. After all, they were served by soda jerks, not pop jerks.

Pretty much the exact same way when you call it soda. Or pop. Or tonic...

I assure you, it has nothing to do with Britney Spears. It's very much a regional dialect thing.

I guess the fact that I'm a midwesterner who grew up in a majority "coke" saying area really narrows down where I'm from!

    I don't even drink coke!

I grew up where it was common to have exchanges like this though:

    - you want a coke?

    - please!

    - what type would you like? we have pepsi, doctor pepper, 7 up, rootbeer and redpop.....

Yeah, can see that I've never really used pop to call a beverage before.

    Does anyone here snort coke?

Our horses are swift, our arrows sharp, our swords like thunderbolts, our hearts as hard as the mountains, our soldiers as numerous as the sand. Fortresses will not detain us, nor arms stop us. Your prayers to God will not avail against us. We are not moved by tears nor touched by lamentations."
