I notice a dialect difference between places upstate here, vs. downstate... downstate we call it soda, upstate calls it pop.

Never understood the Coke thing. What if you want a orange pop? Do you say I want a cokeorangepop?
I like to rock n' roll all night and *part* of every day. I usually have errands... I can only rock from like 1-3.

I'm from Minneapolis. I usually refer to it as pop but soda is okay too. I think calling is coke is strange when not every soft drink is coke. Mountain Dew and Orange Crush are two different kinds of coke????

Really though, the coke thing is prevalent here but only when speaking in the generic. We might stop and get a coke with the understanding that each person picks what they want. Or we might say 'I drink too many cokes' but it is meant in the generic.

I don't know anyone who would be talking about a specific drink like orange soda and call it coke unless it was Coke.

lol yeah this... Coldrink is a funny one. Some older guys say sody water. :p

Yeah, you know after thinking about it, I guess every one just calls it what it is.

    Me at the drive through:

DT: Welcome to such and such what can I get you?
Me: I just need an extra large diet coke and that's all.
    DT: Is Pepsi okay?
    Me: That's fine.
DT: That will be $2.14 at the first drive through window.

Other people say, grab me a Dr. Pepper, or a Sprite. I think most people refer to them by their brand names, rather than a generic description.
