Okay, so you figured out I flunked English.

It just sounds like something a thing does, not is. Lol!

I go with soda or coke. I remember when I was little my grandparents & parents called it tonic. Not just tonic water but all soda was tonic.

In England, it was Pop. In Victoria, Australia, it's soft drink (or fizzy drink if you are telling your kids they can't have it). Don't US TV shows call it "soda-pop"? Perhaps to avoid disenfranchising entire regions of the US?

Coke. Soda and pop sound strange to my ears. My granddaddy would sometimes offer us a "cold drink," pronounced with no separation of the words: "coldrink". Sometimes I will say soft drink, too. But mostly, "Let's go get a Coke," with the understanding that you can order whatever specific kind you want when you get there. If I'm ordering in a restaurant, I'll say the specific brand (but I usually get a regular Coke, anyway).

When people say "pop", I immediately imagine that I'm in a 50s drugstore sharing a drink that has two straws in it with a girl in a cheerleader outfit. It sounds like an anachronism to me.

I imagine.... pop.... something like Britney Spears when she was doing her commercials for Pepsi back in the day

I mean, for crying out loud, I remember Britney being in those Pepsi commercials till this day lol. It is probably why Pop is still widely used.

    Soda
    Soft Drink
    Carbonated Beverage
    Refreshing Beverage
    Refreshment
    Or simply Beverage

I do NOT use the P word to refer to such beverages, and it iratates me when others do so in my presence - if they call it "soda pop" I'm ok with that tho.
